OC sewing classes

Sewing classes are free and open to the public! All ages welcome -- youth must be accompanied by an adult. The project of the day is not mandatory; you are encouraged to bring your own project to work on during our sit and sew workshops. Please call and reserve your seat.

Past sewing classes include Sewing 101: Introduction to Sewing, Chenille Pillows, Holiday Table Runners, Infinity Scarves, Mother/Daughter Aprons, Rag Quilts, Fabric Storage Containers, and SelfBiding Blankets. Monday, October 29, 3-8pm Garment or Duffel Bag

Duffel Bag Supply List:

  • 1 yard of sturdy fabric (denim, sport cloth, quilted, or upholstery)
  • 18 inches of heavy-duty zipper
  • Thread to match fabric

Garment Bag Supply List (Using Single Fabric):

  • 2 1/4 yards of 45-inch wide, firmly woven, medium weight fabric (denim, sport cloth, quilted, or laminated cotton)
  • 36 inches of heavy-duty zipper
  • 2 inches of hook and loop closure (such as Velcro)
  • 5 inches of 1/4-wide elastic
  • 1 inch by 10 inch scrap of matching cotton fabric for loop

Garment Bag Supply List (Using Coordinating Fabrics):

  • 2 yards of 45-inch wide firmly woven, medium weight fabric (denim, sport cloth, quilted or laminated cotton)
  • 1/2 yard of 45-inch wide firmly woven, medium weight fabric (denim, sport cloth, quilted or laminated cotton)
  • 3 inches of heavy-duty zipper
  • 5 inches of 1/4-inch wide elastic
  • 1 inch by 10 inch scrap of matching cotton fabric for loop

how to build a sewing kit

Building a sewing kit? Collect the following items:

  • Tape Measure
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Pin Cushion
  • Hem Gauge
  • Needles
  • Marking Pencil for Sewing
  • Seam Ripper

Finally, find a container for your sewing notions and put your name on it. You can buy an art container at a crafts store or even use a small toolbox.
