OC sewing classes

Sewing classes are free and open to the public! All ages welcome -- youth must be accompanied by an adult. The project of the day is not mandatory; you are encouraged to bring your own project to work on during our sit and sew workshops. Please call and reserve your seat.

Past sewing classes include Sewing 101: Introduction to Sewing, Chenille Pillows, Holiday Table Runners, Infinity Scarves, Mother/Daughter Aprons, Rag Quilts, Fabric Storage Containers, and SelfBiding Blankets. Monday, November 26, 3-8pm Flip'n'Sew Stockings & Fold'n'Stitch Wreaths

Flip’n’Sew Stocking (Designed by Jennifer McLeod) Supply List:

  • Two or four 12 x 18 inch pieces of muslin or solid/small print fabrics for base of stitches
  • Six to ten strips of fabric measuring 12 inches in length and two 5 inches in width
  • 12 x 18 inch piece of interfacing to make your own pattern
  • One decorative piece of coordinating fabric to use on back of stocking
  • Optional: Ribbon, rickrack, buttons, etc. for decorating
  • Optional: Batting or quilted fabric to make a more padded stocking

Bring strips of fabric to share with friends!

Fold’n’Stitch Wreath Supply List:

  • 5/8 yard Fabric for back (green)
  • 5/8 yard fabric for front (red)
  • 1/2 yard fabric for applique (white print)
  • 1/2 to 2/3 yard fusible foam interfacing or Peltex one sided fusible ultra-firm stabilizer (If using fusible fleece and planning to hang wreath, you will need a stiffer interfacing)
  • 17 x 22 inch paper-back fusible web
  • Pressing sheet or parchment paper
  • Optional: any decoration as beads, buttons, sequins, etc.

You will also need: sewing machine, thread, scissors, pins, needles, rotary cutter, mat, measuring tape, ruler, marking pencils, etc. for both projects

how to build a sewing kit

Building a sewing kit? Collect the following items:

  • Tape Measure
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Pin Cushion
  • Hem Gauge
  • Needles
  • Marking Pencil for Sewing
  • Seam Ripper

Finally, find a container for your sewing notions and put your name on it. You can buy an art container at a crafts store or even use a small toolbox.
